Danger in Shadows

TheShadowMan

Jason’s head felt as if an invisible force was pressing his temples outward, threatening to split his face down the middle. He fought to open his eyes, but the lids were far too heavy. His head pivoted violently left and right as he fought to gain control over his body.

There was a noise. A movement. Someone was in the apartment with him.

Who’s there, Jason tried to make the words, but they came out mumbled and incoherent. A large blob of spit trickled down his chin, and met his vomit and blood soaked shirt.

Jason could feel his Watcher move closer; he could feel the eyes upon him.

Help! Jason wanted to scream, but no words could escape his paralyzed mouth. He tried his eyes again; this time the muscles spasmed to life and opened just enough for some light to spill in, but then, snapped shut once more.

Come on, open goddamnit! Slowly, and forcefully his lids began to lift. The little light there was in his apartment, was blinding. Everything was out of focus at first, but slowly, the image began to become clear.

In his arm, buried deep, was a needle; exactly where he had left it.

Jason focused all his strength to lift his head; it was dangerously feeble, but it began to raise.

In the darkness, a large, shadowy figure–almost man like–stood before him.

Jason didn’t see the figure move. Darkness was all he saw; forever.
